Privacy Policy
Template only — not legal advice. This describes the site as
it is configured today: a static site with no accounts and no forms, using
Google Analytics 4. If you switch on ads, affiliate links or a newsletter in
src/data/site.ts, this page needs updating again. Check the
requirements that apply to you — GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA and Google AdSense all
have their own — and have a lawyer review it before you rely on it. Note
that GDPR applies to European visitors regardless of where you are, and
Pinterest traffic is international by nature.
The short version
This site is a static website. It has no user accounts, no login, no database and no comment system. It never asks you for personal information. It does use Google Analytics to count visits, which is described below.
What is collected
Google Analytics 4. This site uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which recipes they read, roughly where in the world they are, and whether they arrived from Pinterest, a search engine or a direct link. It is used to decide what to cook and write next.
Google Analytics collects your IP address (which Google truncates before storing), browser and device type, the pages you view and how long you stay, and the site that referred you. It does not tell us who you are, and this site makes no attempt to identify individual visitors.
You can opt out entirely with Google's browser add-on, or by using your browser's "Do Not Track" or tracking-protection settings, which this site respects.
Separately, like nearly all web hosting, the hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp) for security and operational purposes. Those logs are handled by the provider, not by this site.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies to tell repeat visits apart from new ones. These are first-party analytics cookies and expire on their own; blocking or deleting them in your browser will not stop any part of the site working.
Nothing else on this site sets a cookie. If you tick ingredients on a recipe page, that is held in the page itself and is gone when you close the tab.
Third-party services
Three third parties are involved in serving the site as it stands:
- Google Analytics — as described above. Google's own privacy policy governs what they do with that data.
- Google Fonts — typefaces are loaded from Google's servers, which means Google receives your IP address as part of that request.
- Pinterest — the "Save on Pinterest" button is a plain link. Nothing is sent to Pinterest unless you click it, at which point Pinterest's own privacy policy applies.
If that changes
Advertising and an email newsletter may be added in future. If and when they are, this page will be updated first to say what is collected, by whom, and how to opt out.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
